"Children are born naturalists. They explore the world with all of their senses, experiment in the environment, and communicate their discoveries to those around them." The Audubon Nature Preschool
What is Forest Schools?
Forest Schools is an inspirational approach which helps develop
confidence, self-esteem, emotional and social skills, whilst developing a connection and respect for the natural environment. Forest Schools consists of six regular sessions.
Forest School at Landkey Primary
The first session will start with an introduction and welcome to Forest School where we will go over rules, expectations and site visit. We usually start each session with a team building game or two, some games get repeated and extended as the weeks go on, and in the last few sessions the children will choose the games they have learnt and organise them. After the games the session will go on to include a main activity, using natural materials, some maintenance of the area and some free play to explore the surroundings.
Once the session has finished, your child will write a short entry into a diary back in the classroom about their time at Forest School. During the sessions we will take photos for them to put into their diaries which they can take home at the end of the school year.
Buffy is Forest School trained to level 3. She is CRB checked and a qualified First Aider. She plans in conjunction with the teacher, weather and season. She sets up the health and safety precautions and provides all the tools, equipment and resources. Buffy will also explain and enforce Forest School rules and ensure the sessions are both rewarding and fun, ensuring that your child stays safe while focusing on building their confidence, self esteem and independence through exploring, games and small achievable tasks.
